Winemakers notes
Fermentation of this wine took place in small batches using manual push down of the cap as well as pumping over. After pressing, the different batches were matured in French and American oak barriques for 12 months prior to blending and bottling. We have created a fruit driven red wine with good depth of palate and structure. Very little fining was done to allow the wine to age well.
Aroma
A clean complex aroma of red fruits with some forest floor, savoury tones and well integrated oak.
Palate
Sweet red fruits supported by a subtle tannin structure and well balanced oak. Raspberry and plum characters are nicely blended with spice and toasty oak.
Food
Ideal with lighter red meat dishes and pork, or drink on its own with cheeses.
Cellaring
The 2001 vintage will improve with some bottle aging for 5 to 6 years.
